This is a model styled along the lines of a Northrop F-5. I call it the Aggressor, named after the Aggressor squadron the United states Navy uses to teach naval aviators aerial combat tactics. The color scheme is from the movie Top Gun.
This model is designed for the Mega series of brushless motors. I used a 16/15/3 powered with 9 CP1300 SCR cells in a pusher configuration. This is not a ducted fan model.
Plans are Cad drawn full-size with all details necessary to build the model. Contruction is all balsa and plywood. You can see some of the construction pictures and discussion at the E-Zone Building the model is not difficult but you do need some carving skills when it comes to the intakes along the fuselage length. One of the best scratchbuilding tools I own is the Master airscrew razor plane. This is the tool to have for carving and shaping.
Launching and flying the model is not difficult if your comfortable with fast slippery airframes. I use a catapult to launch the Aggressor. In the air the Aggressor really looks the part. High speed passes are great fun. Landings are flown with a long approach necessary to slow the model without overshooting the runway.
Here is a of the Aggressor in flight.
If your looking for a fast model with the looks of a jet with none of the complexites associated with internal ducting, give the Aggressor a try.
UPDATE: The Aggressor is now in an R/C flight simulator! Kevin Earland at Realitycraft has very graciously modelled the Aggressor in his R/C sim. He did a great job on this and it flies very well. He has captured the essence of the Aggressor and it also has a catapult launching button. Check it out.
A very good modeller who I know from the E-zone website has very graciously donated donated Thunderbird markings for the Aggressor. Dave Blum made these high resolution markings and you can download them by right clicking here and "save target as."
Full-size Cad drawn plans are available for $18.00 which includes shipping and postage. No hidden costs whatsoever! You can use the PayPal link below or send a cheque or money order. Contact me through E-mail for my address.
