MITSUBISHI ZERO

This zero was built by Tom Jacoby from High Rolls, New Mexico. Tom did a great job on this model and is awaiting it's first flight. Looks great Tom and good luck on the maiden flight.

An update from Tom. Tom writes

"Hi Roger, Well, I never got the Zero to fly well with a 6-volt Speed 400. It would just barely sustain flight. I did dork it on the first flight, but luckily it landed nose first in a water-filled drainage ditch! So I cleaned up the mess and installed a RCer Warp4 5-turn brushless and a 2S LiPo. Now it flies as well as my other 1/12th warbirds, and it has plenty of power. It does seem a bit slower, possibly due to that big cowl. It's nice and stable in the pitch, roll and yaw axes. The ailerons are quite sensitive, probably because I sealed the gaps with tape. The Zero tends to float on the landing approach, and doesn't stall easily. Overall, I like it very much!"

Congatulations Tom! Job well done!

Inspiration for this model came from Jim Ryan and his great Speed 400 scale warbirds. You can check out his website. This model is constructed using traditonal materials of balsa and ply. The fuselage is built using the half crutch method and then planked with balsa.

The canopy used is from the Gws Zero parkflyer. Horizon hobbies has the Zero canopy for $2.49

The wingspan of this Zero is 33.75 inch's, wingarea is 193 square inch's. This model flies with a Mega 16/15/5 and an APC 7 X 5E propellor.

Plans are drawn full-size in Cad with all details neccesary to complete the model.
